As usage of the worldwide web expands, there is increasing concern that consumers may be risking their posture and putting themselves at risk of RSI injuries. The frequency of use, and the way in which people are accessing the web via different devices when at home, at work and on the move means that the pressure on our bodies is significant. Update May 2009: NICE Recognises the role of chiropractic for patients with low back pain. The NHS National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has published a booklet entitled; “Low back pain - Early Management of Persistent Non-Specific Low Back Pain”. This booklet is for healthcare professionals and other staff who care for people with low back pain and includes a recommendation that patients are offered, taking patient preference into account, a course of manual therapy. On page 7 of the booklet NICE explains, “The manual therapies reviewed were spinal manipulation, spinal mobilisation and massage. Collectively these are all manual therapy. Mobilisation and massage are performed by a wide variety of practitioners. Manipulation can be performed by chiropractors and osteopaths, as well as by doctors and physiotherapists who have undergone specialist postgraduate training in manipulation.”

Healing Hands to Help Heartburn?
Heartburn is a problem that causes misery every day for millions of people who rely on drugs to ease the pain caused by acid eating into the tube that carries food to the stomach. In the future though, drugs may not be needed to neutralise the acid – you could instead be visiting a chiropractor!
The experiment, which involves patients from all over the country and runs until early 2009, is being conducted through University of Glamorgan. A Consultations which cost £40, and follow up treatments from £30, are available by contacting The Axminster Chiropractic Health Centre on 01297 35844. For more information about available treatments.
“It would be of major benefit to patients if these early findings were to be proved true,” Richard Stenning explained. “Many of the drugs used to treat acid reflux have significant side effects and the cost to the NHS runs into tens of millions of pounds every year”.

Open Day at the Chiropractic Health Centre
With our move to the newly refurbished centre at Pam Cottey House, Chard Street, Axminster completed the staff and practitioners at The Chiropractic Health Centre are holding an open day on Saturday 8th November.
Chiropractor Richard Stenning explains that this is an opportunity for people to meet the team and learn more about a therapy or treatment they have never tried before.
“Chiropractic is mainly known for the treatment of low back pain, sciatica, neck pain and headache but the true aim of chiropractic care is to achieve and maintain long-term health and wellbeing. Regular chiropractic checks look after your spine and help your nervous system, giving you more mobility, lasting vitality and better quality of life. Whatever your aches and pains chiropractic can help but we aim to do more than simply treat symptoms. We treat you as a whole person.”
To this end the centre offers a range of complementary therapies including Acupuncture, Chiropody, Neuro-Linguistic Programming [NLP], Kinesiology, Indian Head Massage, Reflexology, Polarity therapy and Therapeutic Massage.
